Parent Survey Results 2016–2017
Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is committed to ensuring all parents and guardians of students within the Division have a chance to share their thoughts on the overall performance of their school and the Division. One of the ways EIPS ensures its parent’s voices are heard is by conducting an annual parent survey.
In January, the Division invited EIPS families to participate in the 2016–2017 Parent Survey. The survey included 15 questions regarding topics such as the quality of teaching, school leadership, parent engagement and more. The overall EIPS response rate was 16 per cent, which included close to 2,700 responses from parents and guardians across the Division. The response rate was quite a bit higher at Bruderheim School at 26 per cent, which included 32 responses from parents and guardians.
The feedback gathered will help both the Division and Bruderheim School measure its progress towards meeting the goals and priorities outlined in the EIPS 2015–2018 Three-Year Education Plan and Bruderheim School's Education Plan. Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the survey. We value your input!
Bruderheim School Considering Adding PALS (Play And Learn at School) Program
Bruderheim School is looking at the possibility of adding a PALS (Play And Learn at School) Program. Early Years Programming in Elk Island Public Schools supports children in reaching emotional, social, intellectual, and physical developmental milestones.
EIPS offers early intervention programming through our Play And Learn at School (PALS) programs. PALS programming supports children from 3 to 5 years of age who have been assessed with severe disabilities/delays, and children from 3 ½ years to 5 years of age who have been assessed with mild and/or moderate disabilities/delays. Typically, our classes have between six and eight children. PALS programs provide a natural preschool environment with the additional supports needed to ensure learning success.
If there are enough identified children, Elk Island Public Schools will expand Play And Learn at School (PALS) programming to include a class at Bruderheim School for the fall of 2017.
For further information, please contact EIPS at (780) 417-8265.
When Can My Child Start Kindergarten?
Be a Wee Read Volunteer at Bruderheim School!
Bruderheim School has joined the Alberta Reads Network. This year we are implementing “Wee Read”, which is an eight-week program that matches volunteers with kindergarten and grade one students to share books and conversation. “Wee Read” is designed to strengthen the foundations for reading, and school success as well as help children develop language skills and a love of reading. We are looking for volunteers who can come to Bruderheim School to read with kids for about 30-60 minutes per week for eight consecutive weeks. Volunteers will read to children, talk to them about books and stories, and play games that support literacy skills. If you are interested in volunteering for “Wee Read”, please let us know.
